Short answer: yes, small-batch samples are welcome. Most ICs, connectors, crystals, switches and relays can be supplied from a single piece; small passives such as chip resistors, capacitors and inductors usually start at 100 pieces. The process is the same as a production order — the unit price is simply a little higher.
Tell us the full part number including suffix, the quantity you need for the prototype (add 10–20% spares), what the parts are for (design, pilot run or repair), and the packaging you need. Hand assembly can use loose parts; a pick-and-place line needs tape and reel.
Sample pricing is higher than volume pricing for three reasons: de-reeling and repacking labour, the small quantity itself, and shipping plus invoicing spread over a few pieces. When comparing quotes for samples, look at whether the parts ship immediately, whether the date code is fresh, and whether the source and batch information is documented — not only at the unit price.
Three common mistakes at the sampling stage: buying loose parts with no traceable date code, ordering exactly one piece with no spare, and going straight to volume production without recording the sample batch so production and sample cannot be cross-checked later.
