Rapidus president Atsuyoshi Koike has floated the idea of building a semiconductor fab on the Moon around 2040, with IBM providing technical support.
The rationale is environmental: vacuum, microgravity and low contamination could in principle help advanced-node yield. As an engineering proposition it is a very long-term bet.
There is no near-term effect on component purchasing, but it does show that leading-edge competition is extending toward longer-horizon technologies. Treat such news as an industry thermometer rather than a buying signal — stock planning should follow current lead times and prices.
