Low MOQ and sample orders: buy ten pieces without a fight

Most overseas distributors want a reel. For a prototype you need ten pieces. The difference in cost is usually shipping, not the parts.

Direct answer: For prototypes, ask for a sample, cut tape or small batch based on actual stock and packaging. Provide the full part number, quantity, package, project stage and target date before requesting a quote. Reviewed 2026-10-24

What “low MOQ” actually means per category

Minimum order is not one number. ICs, connectors, crystals, switches and modules are usually available from one piece. Passives — chip resistors, MLCCs, inductors — are priced by the reel, so the practical minimum is often 100 pieces, or a cut length from a reel. Power devices and larger connectors vary by package.

If a page says MOQ 100, it usually means the price tier starts there, not that you cannot buy ten. Ask.

Cut tape and partial reels

Cut tape is a length cut from a full reel, usually with a minimum of 10–20 pieces so the tape stays usable in a feeder. Partial reels are what is left on a reel after a production run; they are cheaper per piece but the quantity is fixed. Both are normal for prototypes and small batches.

For hand assembly, loose pieces are fine. For pick-and-place, ask for cut tape with enough leader tape, or the feeder will not load.

The real cost of a small order

Ten ICs might cost a few dollars; the courier can cost more than the parts. That is normal and it is not a markup. If you are ordering samples, combine everything you need into one shipment — the second parcel usually costs as much as the first.

We quote shipping together with the parts so you can see the total before you decide.

How to place a trial order

Send the part numbers, quantities and the destination country. We confirm stock, date code, price and shipping in one reply. For a first order, payment is before shipment; the invoice and packing list go with the parcel.

If the trial works, the same part numbers can move to a scheduled order with a fixed quantity per month — that is when the price improves.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy just one piece?

For many ICs, connectors and crystals, yes. Passives are usually sold from 100 pieces or as cut tape.

Do you supply cut tape for pick-and-place?

Yes, with enough leader tape to load a feeder. Tell us the feeder type when ordering.

Is there a minimum order value?

There is no fixed order value; the practical limit is the courier cost, which is quoted with the parts.

Can I get samples before a production order?

Yes. Sample and small trial orders are normal for us.
