HPMicro has launched a T1 robot joint solution built on its HPM6E80 high-performance MCU, integrating motor control, encoder feedback, temperature sensing and EtherCAT communication — with EtherCAT running over only two wires.
Reducing wiring inside a joint simplifies the mechanical design and improves reliability, but raises the real-time and interface requirements on the MCU.
Robot joints consume MCUs, MOSFETs, encoders, connectors and crystals as a set, and they are usually replaced as a set too. Kewei Technology recommends confirming connector and cable lead times first — they are the most common bottleneck in volume.
Kewei's take: what this means for procurement
Semiconductor trends typically move downstream ordering behaviour about six months ahead. Engineers who lock in a package-compatible alternative early will not be forced into a board respin when supply tightens.
